  • Where to Eat and Drink Near Southam: Our Favourite Local Spots

One of the best parts of staying in Southam is discovering the fantastic local food and drink on offer. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed pub lunch, a cosy café breakfast, or a takeaway night back at the cottage, the town and surrounding villages have plenty of great options.

Here are some of our favourite local places to eat and drink during your stay at Marston Croft Cottage.

    Traditional Pubs and Gastropubs

If you enjoy classic British pubs with good food and a welcoming atmosphere, you’ll be spoiled for choice around Southam.

The Bowling Green on Coventry Street is a firm local favourite. Just a short walk or a few minutes’ drive from the cottage, it’s known for its friendly atmosphere and traditional pub dishes. It’s a great choice for a relaxed evening meal or a drink after exploring the town.

If you’re happy to venture slightly further, The Millstone Hare at Dallas Burston Polo Club is well worth the short drive. Set within beautiful countryside, it’s a lovely place for lunch or dinner with impressive views across the polo grounds.

There’s also the excellent Bell Inn at Ladbroke, which is just a short drive away.

Also the recently re-opened and renovated Great Western at Depper’s Bridge – they are so good if you have dietary requirements, and hopefully you’ll get to see the miniature train which runs around the ceiling (a firm favourite from our childhoods).

For those who enjoy discovering historic pubs, The Olde Mint on Coventry Street is a fascinating stop. The building dates back centuries and the pub takes its name from the local trading tokens that were once minted there.

Cosy Cafés for Breakfast and Coffee

Southam also has several excellent cafés if you’re looking for a relaxed breakfast or a coffee stop.

Sweet Boutique on Market Hill is a popular choice for coffee, cakes and light lunches. It’s the sort of place where you can easily lose an hour enjoying a good coffee and watching the town go by.

If you’d prefer somewhere a little more rural, Napton Village Stores Café is a lovely option in the nearby village of Napton-on-the-Hill. It combines a café, deli and village shop and makes a great stop if you’re exploring the surrounding countryside.

And we absolutely have to mention Josie’s Place in Stockton – it’s amazing!

The Pickled Crab has the best coffee and baked goods in town, you might even be able to pick up something tasty for the evening from their deli counter.

    Farm Shops and Country Cafés

A short drive from Southam opens your choice up to include the local farm shop at Hilltop Farm, near Leamington Spa. With its café, deli and farm shop all in one place, it’s ideal if you want a relaxed lunch followed by a browse for local ingredients.

    Easy Takeaway Options

Sometimes the best plan is simply to relax at the cottage with a takeaway. Southam has several good options for this too.

For Chinese food, China Hall and Southam Kitchen both offer collection and delivery from the town centre.

If you’re in the mood for Indian cuisine, Mumbai Blues and The Balti Hut are both popular choices locally. The Balti Hut also has a dine in restaurant with bring your own alcohol.

For something classic, Sea Star Fish & Chips is a great option for a traditional takeaway supper.

    Explore Further Afield

If you’re looking for even more choice, the beautiful Regency town of Royal Leamington Spa is only around 15 minutes away and offers a wide range of restaurants, bars and cafés. It’s well worth a visit for an evening out.

Whether you’re enjoying a relaxed coffee in Southam, a countryside lunch at a farm shop, or a cosy pub dinner after a day exploring Warwickshire, there are plenty of wonderful food and drink options nearby.

And of course, after a great meal out, you can return to one of our houses in Southam, to put your feet up and relax.
